Analysis of my film magazine

The main picture that I used is of the main character from the film. I used a picture of her as an actress instead of her as the character from the film. I did this because most film magazines do this as they are interviewing the actor or actress. This actress is young which will attract the main target audience for the magazine, 15-24 year olds. I have made the image overlap the film title slightly as this creates more emphasis on the main picture. However the title is still readable and recognisable as this will be the same title in every issue of this magazine.

The title of the magazine is at the top and is spread across the whole page so it stands out. I made the 'Film' bigger so the title was not condensed together and it also reflects the genre of the magazine clearly. I used a simple blue font so that it stands out against the background and is easy to read. This colour will also attract both male and female readers.

For the title of my film, I used a bold red font so that it stands out on the magazine cover. This could also show that it is a horror film as it it a connotation of blood. The writing around it is in white so that the title of my film clearly stands out as it is the main piece of information. I used the words 'Exclusive preview' as this could persuade the consumer to buy the magazine because it suggests that they will not find the information anywhere else. I also wrote 'We chat to Georgina Cook' because 'chat' is more informal and will appeal more to my target audience of 15-24 year olds. I have included a quote of what the actress said to give the consumer a short preview of the interview inside.

The yellow circle catches the viewers eye and the ‘massive winter preview inside!’ persuades the consumer to buy the magazine. This is because this issue comes out in August, therefore they will be able to see what films are going to be released within the next few months.

I have added in other film names at the top to show what else is in the magazine and have continued with the colour scheme to keep it consistent. The two films in red are also horror films, so the red colour links in with this genre. I chose these films as they will appeal to my target audience as they are comedy and horror/thriller films.
I put 'plus' in capital letters with an exclamation mark so that it stands out more and attracts the consumers eye as it shows what else is included in the magazine. Underneath, I put the list of included items in the magazine in alternate colours to follow the colour theme of the magazine and to make it more up to date so it appeals to my target audience. I have included items and articles that would appeal to young people e.g competitions, in cinemas etc and some famous actresses and actors names that are also featured in the magazine.

I put 'Inside' in a red font to continue with the colour scheme and so that it stands out. Underneath it, I have included some films and pictures to show what other articles are in the magazine. These two films that I have chosen will appeal to the target audience of my magazine as they both feature young actors and actresses in them, therefore persuading the consumer to buy it. I wrote 'on the set of...' and 'first look at...' to entice the consumer to purchase the magazine as they can read about these films that are not released yet.

The background colour that I used is a light grey as this is a neutral colour and the other colours that I used clearly stand out against it. I also kept to the colour scheme of blue, white and red as these are bright colours that will appeal to young people and it keeps it consistent.

The date of the magazine, the issue number, price and the website are placed under the title. They are in a smaller black font as they are not as important as the rest of the information, however are still noticeable.

I placed the barcode at the bottom right hand side of the magazine so it does not stand out as much and distract the consumer. This is also a common code and convention of the other magazines that I have looked at.

Overall, I feel that I have included all the necessary codes and conventions needed to make my film magazine look professional and appeal to my target audience.
