Questionnaire results

I gave my questionnaire out to 25 people, a mixture of male and females from my target audience. Here are the results:

1) What is you favourite film genre?

This shows that my target audience like a variety of different genres of films. However more people like horror films, therefore I will make a horror trailer as these films are mainly most successful with teenagers.
2) What is your favourite horror film?

This shows that my target audience like a variety of different horror films for example gory films like Saw and Final Destination and psychological films like The Ring. The favourite film was scream, and this is one of the trailers that I have analysed, so I could look over it again to see what it includes. I will also look at the trailers for these films to see what they contain, and this will help me decide what type of horror film to do.

3) What makes you go and see a film?

These results show that the majority of the people that I asked are more likely to go and watch a film at the cinema by looking at a film poster or a film magazine. Therefore I will look at different film posters and magazines to see what the codes and convention of them are and try to include them in my ones to make them stand out advertise my film.

4) What draws your attention when watching a trailer?

This shows that all of these factors are important in film trailers, therefore I will take all of these into account when making my trailer. However people think music is the most important factor in a trailer, so I will try and make my own music, or I will find some copyright free music that goes with my trailer.

5) Do you read film magazines?

This shows the the majority of my target audience do not read film magazines. However I still need to make the front cover of a film magazine, so I will try to make it catchy so people will buy it, and also it will advertise the film as it is on the front cover and people might see it when they are buying other magazines.

6) Do you go to see a film at the cinema after seeing a film poster?

This shows that most people will go and see a film after seeing it advertised on a poster. therefore I will make my poster stand out so it will appeal to my audience and persuade them to go and see the film.
7) Do you look at film websites?

This shows that most people do not look at films websites, therefore I am not going to make a film website as not many people will know the website unless they see the trailer. Whereas posters will be displayed at the cinema and will be easier to see, therefore grabbing peoples attention.

8) What is the most effective way of building suspense in a horror trailer?

As I want to build as much suspense as possible and keep the audience watching I will include most of these factors. However I will focus more on the music, location and I will use quick take as this is what most people think is successful. Also because I think that these are the most important as well, and quick takes keeps the audience watching as they will miss bits if they look away.
